Zac Posen designed the dress worn by Felicity Huffman at the 2006 Academy Awards and within days a knockoff was in retail stores and was unabashedly advertised as Huffman’s dress. To protect the creativity, hard work, and large sums of money invested by fashion designers, a change in the copyright laws is proposed by the Design Piracy Prohibition Act to protect the innovative designers and not the knockoff artists.
